THE BEGINNING - Posted 5/18/07
I bought an FZ6 in September 06' and wrecked it in late November 06'... Bummer. Most of the damage was cosmetic, so I took the opportunity to change the bike to better suit my tastes. A common misnomer is that a fighter is a spilled bike that someone couldn't afford to buy the OEM replacement parts. BS. I already have more in this bike than a new R1, and I am just getting started on the REAL fighter mods.
I didn't take a lot of pics through the rebuild process, but trust me, it was a lot of work. Some of the mods after the wreck, and a few from before the wreck:
- Two Brothers Racing - Carbon Slip-ons
- Corbin Seat
- Galfer Wave Rotors (front and back)
- R6 Forks, Master Cylinder, and Calipers
- HEL Stainless Brake Lines
- Rizoma Rear Sets
- Rizoma Handle Bars
- Rizoma Grips
- Rizoma "Dynamic" Mirrors
- Rizoma Brake Fluid Reservoir
- Rizoma "Zero" LED Turn Signals
- Vortex 520 Chain Conversion 15/50 (was 16/48)
- Power Commander III USB
- Speedo-healer
- Demon Universal Mini-fairing (later trashed: cheap, dark, cheap)
- 7" Round Headlight Bucket
- Aztec 8 Headlight Brackets
- Adjure 7" Wave Cut Black Dot w/ Tri-bar Light
- Fabbri Windscreen
- Removed the Center Stand & Hugger
- Fabbed a Tag Bracket / Exhaust Mount
- Made New Wiring Harness for Speedo and Turn Signals
- Re-routed Wires to Clean up Entrance to Frame
- Puig Belly Pan
- LSL Frame Sliders
- Custom Paint
- Clear Alternatives Integrated Signals LED Tail Light
- LOUD Ass Horn
I'm leaving stuff out. It took a while to get everything to look the way I wanted. Hiding this, moving that, and the freaking headlight headaches... BAH! When I was finished, I was absolutely thrilled with the bike. The new suspension and brakes made it a joy to ride. The all black agressive look made me smile whenever I would get close to it.
A few months have passed and I still love the bike, but I know that it isn't *really* a Streetfighter yet. The more I look at it, the more I want to ditch the seat, undertail exhaust, shorten the subframe, and re-visit that stinking headache headlight. So, in the next update you get to see what a REALLY naked bike looks like, as I currently have it stripped down to the frame parked in my garage. Soon the real fun begins.
The pics below show the bike new, then bent, then black.
