hello jim,
egay here and i'm also new here.
i was searching the net for z1 street fighters and landed here, so naturally, i registered when i saw this post.
i have a 1982 z1 A4 which i begun rebuilding since 2007 with the help of a local shop & biker who is a kawasaki collector (i'll post my photos soon). unfortunately, the build was so-so and the bike's performance was below expectations (i.e. very disappointing) that i haven't used it the way i wanted to... i returned the bike several months ago for rebuilding but it hasn't been touched, so i'm taking it out of the shop this week & bring it to another builder, BUT THIS TIME, i want to start right, and your post seems timely to me
i hope we exchange info?
here's mine:
front: 2002 R1 inverted forks + 130 Metz
rear: modified kawasaki + 190 Metz
engine: stock 1068cc + individual K&N filters on stock carbs
electrical system: garbage but still works
meters: from a 400cc kawasaki bike - useless & garbage although looks 'orig'
seat: rebuilt but poorly done
rear shocks: i don't know where it came from, possibly from a 400cc bike; garbage
the farthest i travelled with the bike was around 200kms. yes, it's a 'looker' but it is also embarrassing because some 400cc riders overtake me like i'm some wimp; the carb & engine are simply "not right"; the carb always overflows after using; the engine is too noisy (some kawasaki riders told me that our bikes are like that, but i don't think so - i used to have a zzr1100 sport tourer and the engine wasn't noisy at all... there's really something wrong with my z1)
there was a time i was thinking of abandoning the project, but i really like this bike and i'm dreaming of really building a "REAL Z1 Streetfighter".
This is all for now.
warm regards from Manila!
