BANDIT 12 USD GSXR 600 750, 04 05 SWAP... HOW TO!!!!!! Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

Ok Here goes instructions on front end swap for Pre 2000 Bandit 12 for all those who have been thinking about it forever and never had balls to go ahead just like me... did research and finally worked up some big ones to give it a go so i'll save you the trouble and talk you through it.. hope all goes well..

This Applies to all bandit 1200s from 1996 to 2000 after that im not sure about my dimensions.. and its a clean swap for a GSXR 600 750 04 05 FRONT END..

Cheers

For this conversion this is list of spacers i had machined up to use bandit wheel and 05 750 Axle

4 off 10mm i/d x 24mm o/d x 5mm
1 off 25mm i/d x 29mm o/d x 73mm
1 off 25mm i/d x 32mm o/d x 12mm
1 off 25mm i/d x 32mm o/d x 16mm
1 off 22mm i/d x 25mm o/d x 20mm
and another two that match rotor centres 2mm thick each side to space out rotor centres...
because the standard bandit rotor centres on the bandit are 128mm and the gixer radial calipers require 132mm centres so hence the spacers..

Also the rotors on the Bandit are 310mm and the Gixers are 300mm so the calipers need to be spaced out 5mm which is what the 4 off spacers are for above..

So all you need is your original stem pressed out and pressed into gixer bottom yoke and original front wheel the rest... buy it...

just for reference the front ends for the 04 GSXR 600 & 750 and the 05 GSXR 600 & 750
ARE ALL IDENTICAL I REPEAT ARE ALL IDENTICAL..
YOKES FORKS CALIPERS AXLE ARE ALL THE SAME..
so that means if you buy everything separate like i did off ebay you have the choice of 4 bikes...
excellent..
my particular conversion has 5 donor bikes and they varied between 04 and 05 600's and 750's
1. forks
2. calipers
3. axle
4. top yoke
5. bottom yoke..

47mm o/d 20mm i/d x 14 mm

the new bearings are called 6005
They are
47mm o/d 25mm i/d x 12 mm

and i fitted 2 x oil seals to fill in void..
47mm o/d 32mm i/d x 7mm

So to conclude it all set me back between $1000 - $1200 bucks Aussie dollars..
you could do it cheaper but i was fussy on my calipers and forks...
also you could do it with a Gixer front wheel and rotors but i like my rims matching.. only reason i kept bandit rim...

Its very easy... very just dont stress out or panic and take your time.. shop for good parts and have a go, having all the right tools make the job beyond easy, a mate comes in handy to or a handy missus.. any good machine shop or auto mechanic should have a press and your yokes take 5 mins, if you have any troubles dont hesitate to ask...

The forks are 45mm shorter than the B12 originals the steering will be dramatically quicker and high speed headshake may be an issue but i havent ridden it yet so i will let you all know...
